Just wanted to say thanks for the opportunity to see ‘Two to One’ film yesterday evening. Entertaining, surprisingly funny & thought provoking. However, it was challenging to understand some of the dialogue as the subtitles couldn’t be read if the background to the white lettering was light. Thanks again, NJ

    1. Hello Nancy

Thanks for getting in touch and I’m glad you appreciated the film.

I agree the subtitles didn’t stand out well on pale backgrounds but I was at the control desk right at the back in the gallery. I spoke to someone sitting below in the bleachers and they said the subs were readable closer up. Not sure where you were sitting but I would generally advise that the picture and sound are better nearer the screen. Perhaps something to bear in mind for subtitled films.

Hope it didn’t put you off!

Thanks for your support and best regards

  1. Hello and thanks for your comment

The captions were actually less intrusive than I imagined they would be and I think there were sections of dialogue that most would have found indistinct so thanks for the prompt. We’ve had no adverse comments so far!

    Re subtitles in ‘On Falling’
I should mention that it was me who asked if it were possible to have subtitles for this film; hope this doesn’t affect my objectivity.
I was entirely happy with them. It’s difficult to know how it would have been without them, as I just naturally used the subtitles and didn’t really attempt to listen to the dialogue without reading the words. Nevertheless my impression was that I would have missed quite a bit without them.
Subtitling the sounds as well as the words was a minor distraction for someone with hearing, but, for me, it didn’t cause a problem.
Thank you again for doing this.
