BBFC – the British Board of Film Classification decides on the certificates (U, PG, 12, 15 etc) for all films screened in the UK. You can find any film and a description of the reason for its classification.
British Film Institute (BFI) – the UK’s lead organisiation for film and tv. It oversees the distribution of National Lottery funds aimed at developing and supporting film making and also looks after the National Film Archive. The BFI publishes Sight and Sound magazine which is full of reviews and articles about film.
Buxton Cinema – Buxton’s main cinema (we use the same venue). Their programme includes many of the mainstream films that we don’t screen.
Cinema for All – the organisation that helps community cinemas and film clubs/societies with help and advice including licensing.
Film Bank Media – the leading film licensing company for community cinemas and film societies.
IMDB – the international film database that includes full details of all films released anywhere in the world. The IMDB score is widely used to judge the popularity of films
Independent Cinema Office (ICO) – the national body that supports the independent cinema sector. They provide courses and training on all aspects of film exhibition and provide programming services for independent cinemas. The ICO also organise preview screening events throughout the year which we attend to help us with programming.
Little White Lies – website and printed magazine of film reviews and news.
Rotten Tomatoes – film listing site with the well-known ‘Tomatometer’, a scoring system that combines reviews from hundreds of film critics.
