Our mission is to make sure that the best independent and international films make it to Buxton so that you don’t have to travel to Manchester, Derby of Sheffield to see them. We are registered as a charity, we’re all volunteers and charge the minimum we can for tickets to cover the hire of the cinema venue and film licensing costs. The captions were actually less intrusive than I imagined they would be and I think there were sections of dialogue that most would have found indistinct so thanks for the prompt. We’ve had no adverse comments so far!

Re subtitles in ‘On Falling’
I should mention that it was me who asked if it were possible to have subtitles for this film; hope this doesn’t affect my objectivity.
I was entirely happy with them. It’s difficult to know how it would have been without them, as I just naturally used the subtitles and didn’t really attempt to listen to the dialogue without reading the words. Nevertheless my impression was that I would have missed quite a bit without them.
Subtitling the sounds as well as the words was a minor distraction for someone with hearing, but, for me, it didn’t cause a problem.
