Short film 2023 – help if you need it

Hello High Peek Filmers!
Is anyone interested in writing, producing and shooting a film – fiction or documentary – to enter into this year’s revised Buxton Short Film Competition? The idea must have some relevance or connection with the High Peak area, and of course be of interest to a general audience.
I used to organise the ShortArts Film Festival 20 years ago (!!), as the climax to a Scriptwriting and Film-making course I ran at Buxton College. I’m recently retired as a teacher, and very keen to keep up my interest in the art form.
So, if you are a film-maker, scriptwriter, actor, or have an interesting or moving story to tell, then this could be a worthwhile challenge for you! I’ve set up a Facebook Group to begin with, called HIGH PEEK FILMERS, so please pass this around to all your local friends and contacts.
You’re welcome to post ideas on the page, and get some feedback from others. It could be a short drama, action (within constraints!), or even horror. It could be a documentary about your family history or a person’s battle against adversity. It could be a poetic essay featuring our beautiful countryside – in Spring, that is! Or a community issue, or even a soapbox diatribe.
BUT . . . IT MUST HAVE A STORY TO TELL.
What I’m offering is a) my expertise: I’ll advise participants, either as groups or as individuals, as to the production values of their ideas; b) where necessary, coach and mentor participants through the writing- research and actual film-making processes; c) offer some guidance in editing the film; and d) actually edit a maximum SIX chosen projects myself.
We will be using DSLR cameras – if you have these, then that would be great, but there’s no reason why you can’t use your mobile phones, depending on cinemagraphic principles, and professional audio recording kits and lights-rigs-and-jigs-and-gizmos which I have access to as a former teacher.
We haven’t got long! To sum up, you:

  1. Must have a worthwhile and unique Story to tell;
  2. Must be willing to commit to finishing your project;
  3. Must be prepared to undertake a steep learning curve;
  4. Must be prepared to follow and share guidance as production teams; and,
  5. Be prepared for what could be a life-changing experience.

Except for the £10 entry fee for each film, there are no other costs, but writers-producers must bear their own expenses. Where necessary, all equipment will be provided, but shooting will be overseen by me.
I think we are all in the doldrums at the moment, and this is an opportunity to rise above our troubles and launch our creativity. What say you!
You can dm me on my Facebook link if any personal and confidential queries, or contact me via Buxton Film.
